Summary plots - Archives

Summary plots of the one minute variations of the geomagnetic field are available for all Canadian magnetic observatories. These plots show the X (northward), Y (eastward) and Z (vertical downward) components of the magnetic field. Universal Time (UT) is used.

For an accessible HTML version of one minute variations of the geomagnetic field, please use the Plotting Service.

Date
  • The fixed scale is determined from the maximum positive and negative variations from the mean for all components for all stations.
  • The automatic scale is determined from the positive and negative variations from the mean for all components for a station.
  • The solid displays the data using a solid line with gaps for missing data.
  • The dotted displays each data point as a dot.
  • white turns colour coding off
  • colour turns colour coding on

Colour coding indicates the level of geomagnetic activity

  • Green indicates quiet conditions
  • Yellow, orange and red indicate increasing levels of activity.

More information about activity levels can be found at the Space Weather Canada web page for Short Term Forecast.
